West Virginia’s economy has been one of the most unstable in the nation. It ranks among the lowest in per-capita income, in employment, and in the number of adults with college degrees.

Mining dominates West Virginia’s economy. Even with a federal court ruling that shut down four of the state’s largest mines because of environmental concerns, Moody’s Economy.com believes that the increasing demand for coal could attract significant investments into the state in the future.

How Is the Economy Treating You? Tell ABC News Your Story

Tom Witt, professor of economics and director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at West Virginia University, said that even with the state’s economic volatility, he does not believe it is in a recession.

“We haven’t seen, in the short run, the budget shortfall that other states have had,” he said. Witt also said that, except in the eastern panhandle, West Virginia has not been as affected by the subprime mortgage crisis as have other parts of the country.

Witt believes the biggest concerns for the state include its aging work force and the number of college graduates choosing to leave the state after graduation.

“We have the oldest age of population of any state in the country,” he said, “and we face a pretty high proportion of people who have withdrawn from the labor force.”

Witt believes, however, that the state may finally be trying to capitalize on its higher-education system. To combat the loss of college graduates, the state provides $50 million to fund a new initiative called Bucks for Brains. Modeled on a program implemented in Kentucky, the fund provides incentives “to stimulate world-class research and development and to reap the related benefits of high-tech, high-wage industries.”

Traditionally, much of West Virginia’s youth has emigrated to neighboring states in search of greater economic opportunities. However, an increasing number of young professionals and entrepreneurs are bucking that trend, instead choosing to build careers and futures in West Virginia.

The State Journal, a premier business and government publication in West Virginia, recently announced its 2008 Generation Next class, recognizing 40 professionals under age 40 from across the state. Some assist communities and schools, while others expand business capacity, market our destinations, govern our cities, and even sell us frozen lemonade. Congratulations to each of the Generation Next designees, and a sincere thanks for your efforts!

Recipients are encouraged to share their thoughts via comment. Why did you stay or move to West Virginia? How do you envision West Virginia 10 years from now? General thoughts are also welcome.

The financial responsibility law of West Virginia demands every driver to carry auto insurance documents on their automobiles. Every vehicle owner is supposed to abide by this law, failing which they would come under the direction of a discretionary authority responsible for the state laws of auto insurance in Wisconsin. As a vehicle owner you stand a chance of increasing the coverage limits of your auto insurance should the need be. The laws for auto insurance in West Virginia allow coverage up to $10,000 for property damage, however the limit for bodily insurance coverage touches $20,000 as a minimum figure and it only can get up to $40,000. Put simply, one can get a coverage of the aforementioned amount in the event of any casualty or injury to the third party involved in the accident.

No citizen of West Virginia can even think about the possibility of escaping from the claims and charges when he or she is caught for driving without auto insurance. The laws put down by the authorities necessitate that a driver must have auto insurance even if it is invalid, i.e. it has already lapsed. This is why all insurance agencies present the drivers with a proof which must be carried on the vehicle at all times. The proof is an identification card meant for verifying the insurance of the driver who drives the auto. Statistics show a noticeable increase in the price of insurance premium thanks to strict laws which have forced people to come out and apply for different insurance coverages so as to be insured. The average premium price was standing at $877 approx. in the year 2008 which resulted because of a 3.6% increase in the average premium price that was about $844 in 2007.

House fires, burglaries, and damaging storms can occur at any time, and you could lose everything you own if you don’t have insurance. Here’s how to get low cost homeowners insurance coverage in West Virgina with a reliable company. You should have enough coverage to rebuild your home if it’s destroyed. To find out how much this would be, ask a local builder or Realtor what the building cost per square foot is in your area, then multiply that figure by your home’s square footage.

To find out how much personal property coverage you need, take an inventory of all your possessions. The total value of your possessions is the amount of coverage you should have. Some expensive items like jewelry, works of art, and certain types of collections may not be fully covered. Check your policy to see how much coverage you have, then purchase additional coverage if you need it. Standard polices do not provide coverage for floods. If you live in a flood zone you can purchase federal flood insurance through your insurer. The easiest way to get low cost homeowners insurance in West Virginia is to go to an insurance website where you can get rate quotes from different companies in one place.

As you enter the realms of West Virginia, the first thing that will greet you is the overwhelming beauty that it yields. Rolling plains and steep mountains, shrouded with the green envelope of boreal forests. Glancing to the sky you see its pale blue entirety studded with streaking clouds of white. West Virginia is truly the place to be.

The Child of the Civil War

Being the only state that was born of the American Civil War, West Virginia was born in the fateful day of June 20, 1863. It became one of only two states that Vermont. Before the dawn of American independence, West Virginia was long known as the hunting grounds of Native Americans before the coming of the pale-whites of Europe.

Sporadically bordered by the Ohio Potomac Rivers, this fact makes West Virginia a good place to be. Ideally, West Virginia is studded with breathtaking rivers and mountains that remain to be green. Its climate is generally frosty due to the fact that West Virginia’s central portion is elevated.

How People Live

The West Virginia real estate economy is defined by the coal mining and drilling that happens in their area. Having been bordered by tens of mountain ranges, farming is limited in the West Virginia area. However, it’s still good to say that life remains to be good in the state of West Virginia.

West Virginia real estate is rooted to serene and natural beauty that is held by West Virginia. Everyone wants to live in a place of hundreds of job opportunities but what’s the point if you live in a dirty and disgusting area. You may have a pretty fine job and a high-paying status but living in a bad place just makes your life miserable, right?

No to Unemployment

West Virginia real estate is much sought after. Imagine living in a paradise on earth. Enough job opportunities and a beautiful area that can easily take your breath away. Though the history of West Virginia may be shrouded in the darkness of racism and revolt, all those can now be easily dismissed as a thing of the materialized by breaking away from its original state, the other being the state of past. The past is that which tells the present what not to do and what to do.

To live in West Virginia real estate is like living in a land whose present is nothing like it’s past. Though West Virginia may have a pretty fragile economy, its beauty can compensate for that. Its history is dark and grim, smeared with the crimson liquid called blood, but whose history isn’t? The reason why the world today is all bright and sunny is due to the fact that it has learned its lesson from yesterday’s mistakes.

Investing Means Change

To invest in West Virginia real estate is a celebration of change for the better. Its utterly beautiful environment and its peculiar and interesting past makes much more reason. West Virginia is a beautiful state and you can live the high life, the prime of your life as you live in this state, this beautiful state.
